Our Team
We work with hundreds of people to help us design our trips and make them go as seamlessly as possible though, at its heart, the essence of our service is our core team and the human element we strive to infuse into each of our holidays: the person who meets you in Buenos Aires, time in which most of our trips include, is generally the same person who you spoke to when you first contacted us, the same person who helped you create exactly the trip you were after, who then carefully dotted each I and crossed each T on the run-up to your arrival (to make sure that everything possible had been done for you to have a wonderful time) and the same person who will be your principal point of contact throughout your time in South America.
We are a small, close-knit team and we spend a lot of time together, not just in the office though we often get together to cook and share a meal and to explore new services. We come from all walks of life and have vastly different personalities, though, through these shared experiences, our company is as close to a family as a business can be, and we don’t just rejoice in our differences, we use them to improve our service; for example, Mariana and Jimena’s experience as mothers has given us a deeper understanding on how to look after families on holiday or Paulo’s passion for dance has meant we are able to offer a behind-the-curtain look into a world that is virtually inaccessible to a passing visitor of Buenos Aires.
Below are brief descriptions of our core team:
Hugh MacDermott
CEO
After cutting his travel industry teeth in Kenya, at the green age of seventeen, Hugh arrived in Argentina aged twenty and, after a two-year walkabout, he spent another five years working as a guide – on foot, on horseback and behind the wheel of a 4×4 – around the Southern cone of the Americas before he created the first trip by Macdermotts in 2009. He studied nothing though, what he lacks in education he makes up with an on-the-ground knowledge of the region that very few people can match.
Paulo Salvador Jimenez Veron
COO
Adriano La Croce
Technical Destination Consultant
Born and bred in Buenos Aires Adri has a degree in tourism and a masters in Economics and Tourism Management; his dissertation was on the development of tourism in the little-known province of Formosa, with a focus on the even lesser-known La Estrella Wetland. His great passions are exploring the less trodden regions of his home country, acting, painting, playing the bass guitar and – his deepest love – the Racing Football Club.
Pablo Ramirez
Administration & Marketing
The most rational, level-headed member of the team; the indispensable Pablo heads up the administration of the company and the technical side of the marketing and he keeps us all on the straight and narrow. He studied business management specialising in tourism, though his meticulous, methodical mind hides the soul of a hopeless romantic which shines out in his inexpungible love for painting, photography and unceasing desire to understand more about the world he inhabits.
Mariana Luna De Bettin
Travel Designer
After a childhood of travelling, Marian was inspired to dedicate her higher education to the world of travel, which was followed by nineteen more years of life in the local travel industry. Marian is our most experienced specialist and her two adorable children have helped her become one of the best family holiday specialists in the country. She heads up our Patagonian office.
Florencia Enrri
Administration
Flor is the company overseer; as the one member of our team that has not come up through the travel industry, combined with her years of experience in business management she has an objective insight into the company that helps us anticipate potholes in the road ahead. Like all of the team she also has an ingrained creative side and is a talented fashion designer.
Juan Ignacio Pissareff
Travel Designer
Juani hails from the heart of the Argentine Pampas and, though the youngest member of our team, even at almost half the age, he challenges even Hugh with the miles he has under his belt travelling around Argentina. He has been documenting his travels in his excellent blog since 2017, with a joyful, celebratory voice for his country but also an honest voice telling his readers how it really is without any travel cliches and restraints of travel marketing. On top of this, he has also somehow found time to get a degree in tourism and hospitality.
Maria Jimena Puente
Travel Designer
Jime is the most international member of our team. Having worked for decades in the airline business, she’s travelled to all corners of the globe and her deep knowledge of all types of people and their plethora of idiosyncrasies is an invaluable part of our combined knowledge. We were very fortunate to convince her to stay in Buenos Aires and she is a passionate actor – revelling in the wacky, vast, culturally intrinsic world of porteño theatre.
Charlie Black
Marketing
Charlie spent half his childhood in the Dominican Republic and half in Venezuela, never really feeling part of either country. Rather than let this dampen his spirits, he embraced his nonconformity and by throwing himself into his passion for creativity he made his own, one-of-kind, mould. He studied fashion design though he is the ultimate autodidactic. He is a talented, self-taught photographer and cameraman, working in the field since 2014 when he arrived in Argentina, and he has evolved – purely on his own insatiable desire to learn – to become a creative director, editor and producer, working on and running a series of wide ranging projects. He once disappeared for several months in his apartment only to reappear, inexplicably, as a talented DJ and he’s recently launched his own clothing line. He also dances so well he’s the embodiment of Latin America’s joy of dance.
Goan Villanueva
Marketing
Goan’s passion for design started in childhood, sown and nurtured by his father (a self-taught designer and publicist). This early foundation helped him achieve a scholarship for Multimedia Design at the Digital Design Center in Valencia, Venezuela. After graduating, Argentina had the great fortune to be his chosen destination and over twelve years he has flourished into a marketing polymath: working for small and large companies and independently, on a myriad of different projects, in a range of different aspects of the industry, from brand development, websites, applications, video games, social networks, email campaigns, short films and every aspect of animated video production. He’s run projects on his own and overseen teams and he’s always looking to expand his knowledge, not just to advance his career but for the deep passion he has for what he does.
Tonina
Emotional Support
Though born on the streets Toni has always been a princess at heart. Her beautiful, melt-your-heart eyes meant she was a shoe in for emotional support and she uses them with laser precision to take the edge off even the gloomiest of Mondays.
Pangui
Emotional Support
Born and bred on the rough streets of Buenos Aires, Pangui, despite not being the sharpest tool in the box, used her innate tenacious charm to work her way up from street dog to emotional support dog in the matter of weeks. She majors in hugs and not fetching sticks.

What our guests say
Posted on k KTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Adriano La Croce at MacDermott's in Buenos Aires put together an absolutely spectacular trip for us from Santiago, Chile to Torres Del Paine, to El Calafate, to El Chalten and, finally to Buenos Aires. The transports between locations were seamless, the accommodations at Camp Patagonia in Torres Del Paine, Explora in El Chalten, and the Hotel Hub Porteno in Buenos Aires were first class and the service could not have been better. Adriano set up restaurant reservations for us, made changes quickly when we wanted to do something we hadn't planned, and was very easy and pleasant to work with. One of our best trips ever, and we've travelled a lot.Posted on Martin RoweTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Just returned from a fabulous trip across Patagonia, organised by Hugh and the Team. They found some fabulous places for us to stay, and made life very easy for us. Especially when our internal flight was cancelled through a strike, they rebooked us next day with no hassle. It's a huge and varied Country but Macdermotts certainly managed to help us get the most out of our tripPosted on Annie DunneTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Hugh, Paulo and the entire team at MacDermott’s organised the most wonderful trip for our honeymoon. We covered 3 countries in South America and everything ran so smoothly, we didn’t have to think about a thing because they had it all covered. We couldn’t recommend MacDermott’s more highly!Posted on Susan GlazerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Argentina was all we hoped for and more! Thank you to Jimena and the MacDermott’s Argentina team for a beautiful and unforgettable trip! Although we entered this journey with little knowledge of South America or Argentina, we were expertly guided by Jimena from the first conversation and over many others. Our trip was tailored to many specifications--private tours, drivers, boutique hotels, restaurant reservations and unique experiences. We felt very cared for and the lines of communication were open for any questions or guidance. We had a fabulous mix of nature and city--from the incredible Buenos Aries, to Bariloche, Salta and the Iguazu Falls. Argentina is a large country that required good planning and navigation to optimize our experience over the 2 weeks we had. Jimena helped us organize an itinerary that kept us on schedule--knowledgeable and fun English-speaking guides who met us at our hotels, local drivers, boats and many planes. Her recommendations gave us experiences we might never have found or tried. We were leery of our private tango lesson and day in Tigre--with Jimena’s encouragement we agreed and these activities became some of our most memorable travel experiences. We were also able to incorporate some much-appreciated free time into our days for wandering or relaxation. We would highly recommend Jimena and the MacDermott’s team to personalize a trip to Argentina. Thank you again!!!!Posted on Joan McKeyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. 100%SATISFIED I did some research and based upon reviews, selected MacDermott’s. I was contacted by Jimena and she was our »person » for several months. I have zero negative comments. Jimena listened to my requests, made suggestions and we arrived at an itinerary that looked good. It certainly was! She was able to personalize our trip nicely. I appreciate that Jimena has long standing relationships with suppliers, drivers and guides. This meant that everyone we met was professional, knowledgeable and fun. Highly recommend both this company and especially, Jimena.Posted on Henri Van TriestTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Just got back from an unforgettable round trip to Argentina with friends, and I can't say enough good things! From the buzzing streets of Buenos Aires to the jaw-dropping views in Patagonia, Iguazu and the delicious wine of Mendoza every moment felt like a dream. The people were warm and welcoming, the food (especially the empanadas and steaks!) was next level, and the landscapes were absolutely unreal. We had a smooth experience throughout—transportation, accommodations, and local tours were all well organized. Special shoutout to MacDermott's especially Paulo!!! Argentina truly has something for everyone: vibrant culture, wild nature, and endless adventures.Posted on Toni SchneiderTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. MacDermott’s Argentina – we thank you so much for the design of our beautiful time in Argentina! We worked with Paulo for 8 months on planning our trip in March of 2025. He was incredibly patient with us making decisions as we were working around family weddings and honeymoons. He really listened to our interests and helped us plan the trip of a lifetime. We visited Buenos Aires, Cordoba (dove hunting), Bariloche and the Patagonia district which included Villa La Angostura and Nahuel Huapi National Park (fishing, hiking, bbq etc…), Mendoza (Ocu Valley) to taste lots of wine and visit a olive oil farm, then back to Buenos Aires. Our two week trip included 8 airplane rides, 4 fabulous guides (Facundo with Cardinal Sur is top notch!), transports – too many to count, but always on time with cold waters, warm chipas, great English and happiness to see us, inform us and get us safely to where we were headed. Our accommodations were all 5 star, Correntoso Lake & River Hotel and Cavas Lodge were both stunning with staff that was top notch! Paulo and his team kept in touch with us, transferred our plane tickets and were always a quick text away on WhatsApp. Even tried to find us soccer or polo tickets at the last minute for our final days in Buenos Aires. I will work with Paulo again in a second if life offers the opportunity to return to Argentina and I HIGHLY recommend his talents to anyone heading in that direction. Paulo and team thank you; we felt very safe and taken care of while on our trip. Ron, Toni, Nate and JordanPosted on Linda NajimTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We just returned from our two week trip to Chile, planned for my 60th birthday. My boyfriend and I had the most spectacular trip! Hugh and his team put together an amazing itinerary, designed to meet all our requirements for experiences, logistics, uniqueness and our desired activities. From my first call with Hugh, I felt the responsiveness, personalization and high level of service his company provided. I couldn’t have asked for anything more in a travel partner. We had three stops—a winery in the Colchagua Valley, a boutique hotel in the Patagonia Lakes region, and a lodge in Southern Patagonia, near Torres del Paine National Park. The recommendations on lodging were so perfect--each was intimate, with such a high level of service and uniqueness. We loved that they were all inclusive, with meals and excursions included. This allowed us to adjust our plans day-to-day, based upon weather and how we were feeling. Hugh also made arrangements to make sure I had a very special birthday celebration, which was absolutely wonderful.Posted on Amy KRTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Just returned from a FANTASTIC trip to Argentina. Working with Paulo and his team at MacDermott's was excellent -- they were professional, very responsive to our goals and need, and they thought of every detail. We really appreciated their careful listening to our needs and goals for our trip and the itinerary they planned for us, including a special private tango lesson evening. All of the logistics for drivers and domestic Argentinian air travel were handled meticulously, Communications with the team were easy and they always responded promptly. We felt very well cared for during our travels. Would definitely work with MacDermott's again!
