More on City Life in Argentina

Al fresco in Buenos Aires
Daily life in Argentina’s cities is much as it is in those of southern Europe; businesses and shops open early, close for a long break at midday, and stay open into the evening. Social life takes place both in the streets and in lively bars and nightclubs; and meals are an opportunity for convivial exchanges.

Buenos Aires at Dusk
Buenos Aires is the most visited city in South America and a cultural capital of South America. The city has highest concentration of theatres in the world. It also possesses an excellent array of museums, music venues and art galleries as well as being the home of tango. People from Buenos Aires are referred to as porteños (lit. people of the port). The city is the birthplace of the current Pope, Francis and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands.

The City of Cordoba
The second largest city in Argentina is Cordoba, located in the geographical centre of the country among the sierras and plains that its province is famous for. The city hosts many impressive cathedrals, museums and Jesuit buildings among its historic streets and has the oldest and one of the most important universities in the country. The city itself is not an important tourist destination, although it does entertain some good nightlife due to the large student population.

The City of Mendoza afoot the Andes
The city of Mendoza is situated at the foot of where the Andes reach their zenith at Mount Aconcagua. In the surrounding countryside lie Argentina’s most famous vineyards and many activities such as rafting, horse riding and mountain climbing.
After being destroyed in an earthquake 1861, the city was rebuilt to incorporate wider avenues and several open parks that give it a much less urgent air. It is a gastronomically import area where many different foods are grown and with some of the country’s best restaurants.

The City of Salta at Dusk
In the northwest corner of Argentina, Salta may be described as being frontier-ish, but it is also a quirky, fun city and brimming with rich culture such as Inca museums and late night peñas to listen to the beautiful melodic folklore music.

Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world
In the northwest corner of Argentina, Salta may be described as being frontier-ish, but it is also a quirky, fun city and brimming with rich culture such as Inca museums and late night peñas to listen to the beautiful melodic folklore music.

Bariloche in Patagonia
Bariloche is the major city of the Seven Lakes area of northern Patagonia. It is a popular holiday destination for Argentines, Brazilians and Chileans and can get quite busy and ghoulish in the high season. It has many lovely culinary delights like chocolate makers and brewers, but the best accommodations are found heading away from the city around the grand lake upon which it sits.

San Martin de los Andes
San Martin de los Andes is a simple town with vast options, nestled in a valley in front of a beautiful lake. Also in the Seven Lakes region, the town has much calmer atmosphere than Bariloche and is the perfect place from which to stage the many activities in the surrounding area both in winter and summer.
