A beautiful ride up into the sierras which includes some of the best horse riding in Cordoba. You will start and end at the stunning Estancia La Constancia, a charming family run farm that lies half way up the Cercado escarpment. The ride will take you up through low woodland, along steep goat tracks to a vast plateau strewn with huge rocks, some of which are so big you ride over rather than round them. You’ll reach the summit of Champaquí, highest point of the sierras, and be treated to Cordoba’s most panoramic views. You’ll sleep in mountain refuges and wash under the waterfalls of the crystalline rivers.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive early afternoon at Estancia La Constancia. La Constancia is set high up in the sierras, looking out at the dry Pampas that stretch as far as the eye can see, and provides the perfect base for horse riding in Cordoba. After a long bumpy road you reach the Estancia’s main house and its fabulous garden, an oasis of colour in the muted tones of the surrounding highlands. As you walk in you can almost feel your worries drop off and the hustle bustle of the outside world become a distant memory.

In the evening there will be a short ride to make sure you are comfortable with your horses and saddles.

Day 2

After an early breakfast, you’ll ride up into the hills along Las Cabras ridge, heading towards Mount. Champaquí. Horse riding in Cordoba, in the mountainous regions, is generally taken at a leisurely pace to give your horses time on the occasionally perilously narrow tracks.

In the afternoon you’ll reach the summit of Champaquí, the highest mountain in the sierras, before then riding down the eastern side, along a rock strewn plateau, to the mountain refuge of Sergio Gonzalez.

Day 3

Today will be spent riding south to the Tres Arboles Refuge. On the way you’ll stop for a picnic lunch at the Tabaquillo River. There’ll be a chance to fish, hike in the rolling hills and swim in the many deep plunge pools that have been eroded into the rock by the river.

Day 4

The Cordoban sierras on the western side have a very steep descent. Today you’ll first ride from Villa Alpina to the edge of the ridge and then slowly ride down along the Cercado escarpment. This is some of the most hair raising horse riding in Cordoba and at times you may prefer to walk though the views are absolutely breathtaking and at the bottom you’ll be met with a delicious barbecue lunch at the Ferreyra refuge. In the evening you mount up one last time for the final two hours back to Estancia La Constancia
