The vast Perito Moreno glacier is part of the huge ice fields that lie in the Los Glaciares National Park, in the southern end of Argentine Patagonia. It is the home of some of the best hiking in Argentina and this trip will take you boating across the lakes that connect the glaciers to hike over the glaciers and up into the Andes mountains that surround them.

Itinerary
Day 1
Transfer to Estancia Cristina in Los Glaciares National Park, via vehicle and then boat.

Day 2
First day hiking in Argentina. After breakfast you’ll drive up into the mountains and then trek back through a landscape that until recently was covered by glaciers. There are some stunning views of Lake Guillermo and of the eastern front of the Upsala Glacier. You’ll then climb down through the Fossils Canyon, named after its many fossils.

Day 3
Transfer back to El Calafate.
Afternoon to relax.

Day 4
Transfer to port and board a boat to motor across the southern arm of Lake Argentino. You’ll then walk an hour to Lake Frías, before jumping in a smaller boat and heading to the far south of the Lake.
From here, you’ll walk to the amphitheatre of Glaciar Grande, stopping for a picnic lunch on the way.

Day 5
Today will start with another boat ride across Lake Argentino, this time crossing the huge ice wall that marks the front of Perito Moreno glacier. On arrival you’ll strap on crampons and set off across the ice. As well as a breathtaking views of the immense ice plateau you’ll see huge moulins, crevasses and caves.

- Price does not include – International flights to Argentina. Personal hiking equipment, except crampons). Transport to Santa Cruz. Bank charges. Personal medical insurance (compulsory). Any visa fees and extras such as tips, laundry etc.

- This trip requires you to be in good physical condition.
- Minimum age limit: 12 years
- It very important to bring the appropriate wardrobe for this kind of trip: comfortable clothes for walking, hiking shoes or rubber soled shoes and sun protection.
